Fight for the Elimination of Violence against Women
« Each time a woman stands up for herself, she stands up for all women. That’s what I have tried to do throughout the years, where I have fought on the front line for what I believe most: equality and respect. Today my biggest wish for every single woman is not having power over men; but over herself » stated H.R.H. Princess Camilla of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Peace Ambassador for UN Women For Peace Association, in carrying on her fight in the defence of women rights.
Princess Camilla started her action in 1998. Since then, she has travelled on official duty to Syria, Yemen and Jordan, where she met H.M. the Queen Raina, with whom she established and developed a project in order to help the Hamza bin Abdul de Marka, an orphanage that gives shelter to abused young women. Princess Camilla is Ambassador for all the charitable activities of the Sacred and Military Constantinian Order of Saint George and the other dynastic orders of the Royal House, for the “Anges Gardiens de Monaco” association, and the Monaco Red Cross. She as well is an active member of the “Action Innocence Monaco” association. The UN Women for Peace Association also awarded her for her actions to support the fight against women and children abuse, so as Peace Jam did by granting her the Peace Jam Award.
On 3 March 2016, indeed, Princess Camilla received the prestigious Humanitarian Award from the UN Women for Peace Association, awarded to her for “her intense social activity on behalf of disadvantaged children”. This association, founded in 2008, is responsible for supporting the projects and objectives of the United Nations that offer opportunities for women to participate in the construction of global peace, through social, cultural and educational programs.
On March 8th 2018, International Women Day, Princess Camilla had the honour to ring the opening bell at the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange). That day’s message was to support and raise awareness of the important action against violence on women. Then, Princess Camilla was the honoree of a majestic luncheon held by the UN Women For Peace Association within the UN Headquarters in New York. The Royal Family was welcomed by Mrs Ban Soo Taek, Mrs. Muna Rihani Al Nasser, Mrs. Barbara Winston, and by Panama First Lady Mrs. Lorena Castillo de Varela.
Princess Camilla was also appointed as World Ambassador for the Italian association Salvamamme, which provides shelter and support to disadvantaged women and their children.
Princess Camilla, through the Constantinian Order, also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Italian Red Cross, as both charities expressed the will to share tools and achieve a common goal, that is helping the most disadvantaged.
